Nigel Simons wins by-election

Nigel Simons

Nigel Simons has been elected to Peterborough City Council to represent Eye, Thorney and Newborough ward.

He won Thursday’s by-election comfortably with 1,018 votes from Christian Defeo (Labour) on 555 and Mary Herdman (UKIP) 279.

Mr Simons lives in French Drove, Thorney, and has served on Thorney Parish Council for a number of years.

The full results were:

Nigel Simons (Conservative) 1,018

Christian Defeo (Labour) 555

Mary Herdman (UKIP) 279

Michael Alexander (Green) 61

Callum Robertson (Liberal Democrats) 35

Turn-out was 27.3 per cent and the result means that no party has overall control of Peterborough City Council.
