New pre-school opens in village
A new pre-school is to launch in Thorney in September.
The village has been very short of pre-school places since the closure of the group in Church Street at the beginning of the year.
The new pre-school will be at the Children’s Centre at the Duke of Bedford School – a self-contained building with its own garden – and will be run by the school.
It will operate five days a week, Monday to Friday with 9am to 12 noon as the morning session, and 12.30pm to 3.30pm as the afternoon session. This ties in nicely with main school hours.
The sessions will be available for children aged two to four years.
The school is currently booking places and parents can contact the school office on 01733 270243 or email: firstname.lastname@example.org
Headteacher, Cathy Bailey said having a pre-school based at the Duke of Bedford would make best use of facilities and also ease the transition between pre-school and ‘big school’ for four and five year olds.
“We are urging people to sign up as quickly as possible to ensure a place for their child,” said Mrs Bailey. “We have room for 24 children in both sessions.”
All three and four year olds will receive 15 free funded hours, but extra sessions will be available upon request.
