Bless you Margaret. What a lovely surprise to be included in the Thorney Post.
The event is slightly relevant because quite a number of members of Thorney Toll families are buried in the churchyard at Guyhirn. There was, of course, a large Irish population in the hamlet at the end of the 19th century. When they died the Catholic priest from Wisbech would come to conduct the funeral in the family home or the Tin Tabernacle. The body was then carried to Guyhirn where the Anglican priest ‘took over’ and buried the person, because the Catholics were not allowed in the churchyard!
Thank you again for opening the Museum for us on Wednesday evening. Everyone very much enjoyed themselves.
With all good wishes to you and the Society.
    Brian.
